SCOTT WEILAND Comments On GRAMMY Win, Performing BEATLES Classic
February 15, 2005VELVET REVOLVER frontman Scott Weiland spoke to the Associated Press about the group's unexpected win at this past weekend's Grammy Awards, where the group were honored with an award in the Best Hard Rock Performance category (for "Slither").
"Everyone kind of counted us out from the very beginning," he said. "But we came out smashing through the gates, with a big middle finger to all our detractors."
"Performing John Lennon's 'Across the Universe' onstage [with an all-star cast, including AEROSMITH's Steven Tyler, U2's Bono and Alicia Keys] was absolutely one of the highlights of my professional career, of my life," he added.
Vodka in hand, VELVET REVOLVER drummer Matt Sorum watched the West Coast replay of the Grammy show on a television by the bar, sporting a look of happy disbelief.
"The whole moment is so surreal," he said. "Wait, was I just up there talking to Steven Tyler?"
